Rock the Vote!
I don't know how many of you are paying attention to this election, but I am.
This year is the first year that I am allowed to choose, and I will not squander it. I'm going to vote for Obama, because I like what he says. We do need change, and I believe that he can bring that change.
McCain wants to overturn the ruling in Roe v Wade- the abortion ruling that states that I, as a woman, have a right to an abortion. He wants us to stick around in Iraq even though the Iraqi Government wants us to step aside- They are eager to prove themselves. McCain believes that there's nothing wrong with Bush's policies that have shipped jobs overseas, making it harder for people who want a job to find one. He believes that marriage should be defined as One Man, One Woman. He seems to support wind and solar energy in his ads, but in his plans for this country, he has only budgeted out how he's going to build nuclear plants.
Obama, on the other hand... Supports a woman's right to choose. He has opposed the war in Iraq since it was proposed, and he believes we should let the Iraqis have their chance to run their own country. Obama believes that American jobs should not be shipped overseas, that LBGT people shouldn't be discriminated against. He believes that women and men should be payed the same for doing the same job.
I want you to go check this out. This... is important.

As I step into my role as a Sailor and a protector of my country, I have to disagree with McCain. I don't care that he chose a woman as his VP.
I believe that, if I have an unexpected pregnancy, I should have the right to an abortion. I should have the right to any job I like, and be payed EXACTLY the same as a man- my gender has no effect on my ability to work. I believe that we should be out of Iraq, but I do also believe that getting Saddam Hussein out of power was a good move. I believe that any love that is love is right- lesbians, gays, transsexuals, bisexuals, and straight people should ALL have the right to marry who they want and not have to worry about discrimination. I don't believe that global warming is real, but I do believe that our dependence on foreign oil is ridiculous. I believe that veterans should be rewarded for their service with the chance to go to college, that insurance shouldn't be so ridiculously expensive, and that kids shouldn't have to worry about how they're going to pay for college.
Guys, seriously. This election is huge. Do your research, and VOTE, damn it.

just playing the devil's advocate
but i guess that depends on your definition of "right to marry".
anyway- I actually am intrigued by McCain's choice of Sarah Palin. Read about her too. I kind of like her. unfortunately she's not running herself. I'm thinking of voting 3rd party. i must admit some of each main candidate is not what I want. I suppose a choice of the lesser evil.... I am leaning towards Obama... I plan to read more through my not-so copious spare time. and when they are on I will try to catch the debates.
Re: just playing the devil's advocate
My definition of right to marry is that people have a wedding and are bound to each other. Churches don't support this if you're gay. I think that if I wanted to really and honestly propose to a woman, have the ceremony, put the ring on her finger, and have a happily ever after, so be it. I should have that right.
Just because Obama doesn't believe in that doesn't mean that he'll ban it.
I just hope the states don't have a big fight about it...
